Labour Day was celebrated at the Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) headquarters on May 1, 2026. The purpose of the event was to recognize the invaluable contributions of workers and to raise awareness about their rights. The program began with a heartfelt tribute to workers at the Shaheed Memorial located at the headquarters. All attendees paid homage to the martyred workers, remembering their sacrifices and dedication to nation-building. These workers laboured tirelessly in the mines, often risking their lives, to ensure the country’s prosperity and progress. On this occasion, the ECL management emphasized that the sacrifices of workers can never be forgotten. Instead, they serve as a constant source of inspiration to strengthen commitments toward social justice, improved working conditions, and the protection of workers' rights. While paying tribute, the management also resolved to build a future where every worker can live with dignity and safety. The ceremony continued with flag hoisting and the singing of Coal India Limited’s corporate song. Marking Labour Day 2026, ECL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Mr. Satish Jha expressed deep gratitude to all employees, contract workers, labour organizations, and stakeholders. He encouraged everyone to view future challenges as opportunities and to work collectively toward building a stronger, more resilient, and future-ready ECL. Officers, employees, and representatives from various committees and organizations were also present. Members of the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC), Welfare Board, Safety Board, and representatives from labour organizations including INTUC, BMS, CITU, AITUC, HMS, INTTUC, TUCC, KMC, UTUC, and CMSGA participated in the event. Representatives from CISTEA, the OBC Association, INMOSSA, and CMOAI also attended and highlighted the importance of the workforce in their respective speeches. The event was organized by the company’s Welfare Department under the leadership of General Manager Mr. Ravi Rashmi Ranjan Lakra. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Alka Kujur, Assistant Manager (Human Resources), from the Welfare Department.
